It's this. And the truth is that Americans have the most disposable income and access to credit in the world. Yes we have an underclass on the brink, but overall, we can afford to pay a bit more, ESPECIALLY if that helps fund better jobs for the precariat surviving off doordash delivery jobs.
Everywhere else would get cars burning riots if prices increased even 10% more due to retaliatory tariffs. Even worse, if there was a 20% drop in production that they can no longer dump in the USA and there's job firings. BTW, they can't legally fire anyone in the EU/Canada due to unions, so instead the company just has to go bankrupt or the government bails it out via taxes or inflation.
