Dividends honestly do not matter. Dividends come out of the price of a stock/etf, so it's really just moving money around. Dividends can sometimes make sense for a business if they don't believe they can reinvest the money into themselves, but they make zero sense on ETFs.

The only thing that matters for a stock is total returns. Buy stocks with good total returns and you make money. Buy stocks with bad total returns and you lose money, even if those stocks pay you dividends. Dividends just move money around, they don't generate it from nothing.
