wants to bring manufacturing back to the US

doesn’t have the infrastructure up required to get the manufacturing back on track

doesn’t have the natural resources required to manufacture goods that are considered essential nowadays

tariffed the fuck out of nations who do have these goods

other nations can just make beneficial trade deals to get goods they can’t produce but need to make up for the loss in trade with the US

the US can’t do this without trading with other nations

nations generally don’t wanna trade unless it’s mutually beneficial

making factories requires capital and time investment

the people with that capital can just invest in safer markets abroad

How the fuck do retards think this will move manufacturing back to the US? The US doesn’t have any FABs, they don’t have the natural resources required to produces electronics and cars without importing shit. The US is genuinely gonna be a third world shithole if they keep this up while the rest of the world will eventually get over the recession.

IMG_4901.jpg - 640x483, 38.39K

reee the trade deficit

He's just basically demanding other countries to stop selling america stuff... to get no tarrifs.

So other nations that sell more than they buy should sell the US less goods to get lower tariffs? They’re just gonna sell their goods elsewhere.

US population: 340 million
Cambodia population: 17.42 million
Of course there is a trade deficit, because there is more demand from US consumers
Somehow orange retard wants Cambodia to produce and send more stuff to the US

Capture12.png - 598x693, 682.68K

It is actually a form of racketeering.

No, see, we're going to build factories to manufacture the equipment we need to build the infrastructure we need to get the materials we need to build the factories. We just need to build the factories first.

they voted for this.

I mean, that's pretty much the legislature that we have within Europe, each State is supposed to run a trade balance vs the rest of the Union.
I'm pretty sure we can figure a way to do that including the USA too.
It's stupid, but if that makes our retarded nephew happy, it can be arranged.

I think the only US made product I use is Tabasco.

51KqVboUwCL.jpg - 1080x1080, 55.79K

Population sizes have nothing to do with it. In a totally flat economy your produce should roughly balance your consumption so the relative sizes don't matter.

All I wanted was to be able to call people retards on Twitter without getting banned I didn’t vote for THIS

Not just that, but why the FUCK would;
A) Companies pay to move back when they can just wait for the democrats to win next time and roll it all back.
B) If they do move back, automation will be more expensive than Cambodian children but cheaper than Americans, so you won't get jobs anyway.

They run the ice business.

Democrats winning

Will be overturned as fraud. Trump will have the plan to make it happen this time, and I’m sure a litmus test for his VP was refusal to certify a 2028 dem win.

It's more about purchasing power and what kind of shit each economy produces. Cambodians are too poor to afford US imports at the same rate as Americans can import from them, and they also specifically make textiles and shit which naturally get exported a lot.

Trade balance is just retarded period, it's like buying a burger and crying you have a 100% deficit with mcdonalds

The jobs themselves don’t have value, they’re just a legible proxy for the more abstract idea of retaining the wealth inside the national economy. The rapid industrialization of the third world is essentially the US economy subsidizing impoverished nations, wealth flows like water toward equilibrium (more or less) and without measures to put dams in place upstream, eventually US wealth will flow outward until “third world” doesn’t mean anything and those countries are economically competitive with the US.

Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up to your personal opinion, but the facts are if your nation is a net importer it is getting poorer while net exporters get richer from its largesse. It can, quite literally, be reduced to “we are spending more than we earn”.

if your nation is a net importer it is getting poorer while net exporters get richer from its largesse

No, stop being influenced by Marxist crap, the economy is not a zero sum game. Americans are not only richer than any country Trump accuses of "taking advantage" of the US, but the gap in median income is INCREASING with time.
Protectionism is based on nothing but vibes, cross the border from a developed country to a poor one and suddenly it's "we're poor because free trade only benefits the rich countries, they're stealing from us!"

The US doesn’t have any FABs

Intel does, and it's on par with TSMC now. The only problem is, as you said, the resources.

How are Cambodians more poor than Americans?
United States per capita national debt is around $110k.
For Cambodia it's around $670.

Vance can refuse al he wants, it doesn't matter. It's all just ceremonial shit.

Yeah I always use the government debt per capita as a basis for what I can buy rather than how much money I personally have.

No, stop being influenced by Marxist crap, the economy is not a zero sum game.

Right. 50 years of stagnant working-class wages as wealth consolidates among the ultra rich because working-class power is systematically undercut by outsourcing + imports to borderline slave labor camps in developing countries is just the rising tide lifting all boats! $3 trillion in debt and counting has nothing to do with our nation systematically spending more than it earns, the economy is just too complex for plebs to comprehend! And oy vey, certainly instituting a tax on large corporate importers will have trickle-down effects on the consumer!

stagnant working-class wages

Myth, the median American shits on the rest of the world in terms of income.

$3 trillion in debt and counting has nothing to do with our nation systematically spending more than it earns

Hi, Trump raised the deficit in his first term (which had been going down during most of Obama's government) and right now he and his party want to pass a budget that will increase the deficit by 2.8 trillion.

I guess when debt is wealth then yes Americans are very rich.

Myth, the median American shits on the rest of the world in terms of income.

he's talking about declines in standard of living. look at CPI for education, healthcare, housing, transportation. it's all highly unfavorable and that's looking at their scam numbers that are adjusted downward for quality improvements or product substitutions.

From my point of view, the trade deficit is evil!

The election is also just ceremonial shit if you ignore the results.

Cambodia: I offer you X dollars for this product

American company: I agree

Trump: HOW DARE YOU

how do you people still not get it? it's all a fake show. their purpose is to get other nations to sit in Mar-a-Lago and have them devalue the US dollar and reduce the debt without defaulting on it

anon, chip fabs aren't the only fabs that exist in the world, and the US buys a lot of shit (including machines and machine parts for factories) from Germany and other countries.

How would a poor country which relies on agriculture due to its climate and natural fertility etc. aquire a trade balance or even surplus with the US? And why would that even be desireable in general? Madagascar sells like ten times as much to the US than vice versa. Of course they do. They're not a developed nation and are poor but have vanilla and shit like that. What sense does it make to "punish" them with tarrifs? How does it help anyone? Can't someone explain that to him using sockpuppets?

CPI for education, healthcare, housing, transportation

None of those things are related to trade. Want cheaper education? Stop having the government guarantee loan paybacks from students who default. Want cheaper healthcare? Stop the AMA from restricting the number of doctors, flexibilize medication patents, expand public healthcare coverage, have the FDA be less anal about accepting foreign drugs etc. Want cheaper housing and transportation? Zoning reform.

Their country deserves to fail then. No more handouts.

to me a deficit is a loss

Is he genuinely fucking retarded? Of course USA is going to have trade deficits with most of the world, you niggers are the wealthiest consumers on the planet and you buy goods from the rest of the world with your dollars that you can basically print out forever because the world, at least until now, had endless demand for dollars.

america produces no coffee to speak of

So why is he tariffing coffee?? This guy is a miga dumbass. I need my coffee.

IMG_1376.jpg - 1179x1603, 287.17K

Myth, the median American shits on the rest of the world in terms of income.

Right. Correct. Because we are the lake atop the hill. The dam is cracked, the water level is sinking as gallons pour out into the lands below. This is a measure to stop that. Since the 1970s, real wages in the US have stopped growing with productivity. Our median wages are higher but the gap is shrinking, not growing, as our money flows out to enrich poorer nations that we use to do our producing. This arrangement only benefits the small few who orchestrate the exchange and they have gotten disproportionately rich doing it.

Hi, Trump raised the deficit in his first term (which had been going down during most of Obama's government)

I believe it. Don’t argue with me like I’m blindly defending orange boy. But reducing the deficit is not an excellent way to eliminate debt. Actually all it does is slow the rate at which debt grows. You have to ELIMINATE the deficit to even start chipping away at debt and this isn’t practical with the US currently.

and right now he and his party want to pass a budget that will increase the deficit by 2.8 trillion.

I don’t think you understand the difference between deficit and debt.

Anon, if your household expenditures exceed your income by a factor of two and you have 25 maxed-out credit cards, cancelling your Hulu subscription is a nice token gesture but it won’t save you. Getting a job that has a significantly higher salary MIGHT. The times in US History when it has been the most stable, prosperous, AND had the strongest working-class share of that prosperity have been the times when its net exports have been highest.

“The economy is too complex to explain” is the same type of Lehman Brothers trickery that always oozes out when the data couldn’t be clearer. It’s really quite simple, so simple anyone who has ever balanced a household budget has been able to understand it for a very long time

kek

-4.30 now

No no no

Sorry. America only has one state that has the proper climate to grow coffee beans and there is no way they are going to be able to supply all of America.

Since the 1970s, real wages in the US have stopped growing with productivity

Only if you disingenuously ignore other forms of income and compensation. The actual income of the median American is far higher than in the rest of the world and

the gap is shrinking, not growing

This is literally the opposite of truth, income per capita in the US is leaving the rest of the world in the dust.

But reducing the deficit is not an excellent way to eliminate debt. Actually all it does is slow the rate at which debt grows. You have to ELIMINATE the deficit

Mate, if the deficit is trending downward, what the fuck do you think is the end result? The idea is to reach a surplus at one point. How the fuck is Trump's budgeting, which goes in the opposite direction, is making it harder than before to pay off the debt.

wagg.png - 666x897, 113.63K

Well, Puerto Rico also grows coffee though iirc most is for local consumption. Still can’t make up the difference though.

How on gods green earth does this work? Say VOW sells cars in Finland, does that mean the German government mandate that Germans should buy Nokia phones? or do they subsidize Nokia phones in Germany to balance the trade?
Trade is mostly done by private actors, corporations buying stuff from other corporations or selling to customers. How do the government balance this?? subsidize? taxes? what other options are there???

Meanwhile

IMG_8161.png - 837x436, 41.41K

It's happening.
SO
MUCH
WINNING

gotta go back to chickoree coffee

wage goes from 26 to 30

meanwhile a full shopping cart goes from 100$ to 250$

Those wage figures are inflation-adjusted. They just also disingenuously ignore the whole “with productivity” part of the comment and try to leverage the tiny real wage increase to disprove how wages are no longer coupled to the massive real GDP increase over that same timeframe.

Holy 0 IQ. I share a board with these retards.

based, mcdonalds should pay me to eat their shitty burgers

Add to this

didnt announce any investments in domestic industry or infrastructure

is not investing in education to get all the required technicians, engineers etc. Instead he cut the department of education

I mean, that's pretty much the legislature that we have within Europe, each State is supposed to run a trade balance vs the rest of the Union.

You just made that the fuck up, absolutely nowhere in the EU statutes does it say that. And its not true in practice either. Germany, France, Netherlands etc are just plain extracting resources from the south and east. Ever heard of the supermarket war? Everything is now Aldi, Lidl, Intermarche etc. All native supermarkets in Southern Europe were taken over or outcompeted, and they only sell northern goods. Same with the North using Easterners as slave labour.

GDP isn't labor productivity.

DOOMP ET AGAIN ZE CAT HAS FINALLY LANDED

Americans purchasing power has gone down but that is also a result of rising inequality in your own country. I dont want to sound like a commie, but it is a fact that the USA as a whole makes more money than ever, but its concentrated in ever smaller hands. Middle Class is shrinking, more people are working paycheck to paycheck. And "taxing the rich" wont solve that, you cant touch the rich. The idea of better paying jobs has merit, but Trump is going about it like an absolute retard.

Americans purchasing power has gone down

Not at all in the long term.

eh.png - 1320x465, 58.17K

How fucking hard is it to understand what VAT is? It's like they willfully refuse to understand such a basic ass concept that applies to ALL goods sold, domestic or imported

IMG_5643.png - 750x1334, 202.93K

What's hilarious is that Republicans also love sales taxes which are very similar to VAT, in the end it's all consumption taxes.

what's with all this talk of 19th century sound economics in a world of FAGMAN stock bubbles, private equity firms, and real estate as a major proportion of GDP?

EU citizen buys a product, pays the VAT, gets a full rebate

non EU citizen buys the same product, pays the same VAT, does not get a rebate

tar·iff
/ˈterəf/
noun
noun: tariff; plural noun: tariffs

a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports.

reduce the debt without defaulting on it

and who was asking for it?

This is the proof that an IQ test should be mandatory before voting

don't be weak, don't be stupid, don't be panican (weak and stupid

President of USA is a car salesman.

EU citizen buys a product, pays the VAT, gets a full rebate

>non EU citizen buys the same product, pays the same VAT, does not get a rebate

you've just shown you don't just understand how VAT works but how the very cornerstone of the legal order, territoriality works.

Yes you not knowing a definition is proof that you're a genius actually

Please explain how it works

Also highly ESL sentence structure, borderline incomprehensible. I think I get the gist of what you meant though.

if your nation is a net importer it is getting poorer while net exporters get richer from its largesse

No

lol, this is econ 101. catch up.

Adam Smith, the man who invented economics as a discipline, wrote a book on this 250 years ago, "the Wealth of Nations". Read it.

stop being influenced by Marxist crap

Nothing to do with Marxism. Free trade is Marxism because Marxism doesn't want nations or borders.

If Madagascar can't buy more from USA then USA buys less from Madagascar. e z p z

Consumers do not get rebates on VAT. Businesses can claim VAT rebates, but only on goods necessary as a cost of business. So they cant ask back VAT on any goods they sell to end consumers. It works the same way for sales taxes in the USA.

Why does the trade deficit trigger him so much? How is a country like Vietnam supposed to have an even trade a much bigger and richer nation like the USA?

This dumb magatard actually thinks Europeans report how many bread they've bought a year at what price, receipts and all and get tax refunds from it

Thank you for the correction

VAT gets added long the production chain, they don't get rebates but get to pass it on to the next guy in the chain
the consumer is left holding the bag, if the consumer could get a rebate then no one would be paying the Value Added Tax
as for territoriality
taxes don't get applied based on your nationality but on who's territory the transaction happens. So there isn't a difference between a EU and non-Eu citizen.

Good things it's the businesses who do most of the uhhhhhhh business then huh?

Adam Smith wrote a book DENOUNCING these kinds of mercantilist ideas. His whole point was that economics is not a fight over a fixed size pie, but that by specialization, the pie can grow bigger benefiting all parties. Trump is more on the economic level of Jean-Baptiste Colbert.

to Jean-Baptiste Colbert defense
he was working at a time when gold was the monetary supply and you needed to retain gold in order to keep your currency strong and to have reserves for lean times.
Trump doesn't have that excuse, the US pays for it's imports in fiat currency they can and do print more of

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY NEED ME AT THE COAL MINES???? I ALREADY MAKE A COMFY 60K STREAMG BIBONGAMES!!!!

You sull be saying tihs soon.

In the pre modern era economic growth was very small. Something like a fraction of a percent a year, with major setbacks being genuinely MAJOR like the black death, the 30 years war etc. Over a 100 years, there is some growth. Over a 1000, quite measurable growth. But in your lifetime, you wouldnt see much of it, and it would be so slow the difference wouldnt stand out to you. So its logical that the paradigm had always been that the only way to have growth was through conquest. Someone else needed to be deprived so you could grow. Technology is the main reason that changed. So yeah, Colberts' reasoning made sense for the understanding of the time. Louis XIV was ruling just around the cusp where technology started economic growth to a point of it becoming generationally noticeable.

it's not just technology but the gradual decline in transportation costs
if the advantage of specialization gets eaten up by transportation then you aren't going to trade

SURPLUSES ONLY FOR TRUMP
BASED BASED BASED

Transportation costs decline due to better technology (better sailing ships, etc).

don't ask me, I'm just saying that that's their plan

and to top it all off, its somehow going to be ''cheaper'' in the US despite the gigantic increase in labor cost
