So has everyone just collectively decided this is a bad thing for the US because Orange Man bad?...

So has everyone just collectively decided this is a bad thing for the US because Orange Man bad?. Or is there an actual valid economic argument against this?

All you need to know is that every Tariff Expert online was an Eastern European Military Strategic Expert about 2 years ago and an Epidemiology Expert a couple of years before that.

broad tariffs are stupid

it's just libcuck redditors kvetching. Reality is that what Trump is doing is looking out for us working folks, something which no other president has done for decades.
We are one step closer to killing globalism.
One step closer to getting women back in the kitchen and limiting their rights
One step closer to being rid of immigrants
One step closer to being able to lynch faggots

Liberalism and democracy is dead. And good riddance.

what do you think will happen to your expenses when the items you purchase now have a 25%+ tax imposed onto their usual price

even if all of this comes true, everyone still gonna think you are weird and creepy

Taxes bad, This is the biggest tax hike in US history.

It's a chance I'm willing to risk to get the trad wife I have been cheated out of.
I can't wait to have sex.

No, making everything more expensive owns the libs.

It's also not particularly great for economic trade blocks like the EU that are heavily dependent on the US for exports as are a lot of other parts of the world. Sure everyone suffers short term but i guess Trump is gambling that the US will come out of the storm stronger

thanks

My favorite part of this is all the socialists shilling for free markets

Spending comes down which means inflation comes down

it can’t be that my baseless opinions about countries I’ve never visited are incorrect, they are simply double hypocrites: they’re doing what they say they do, but it’s somehow wrong and my head hurts

Are they socialists? How can you tell?

It's like the oj case. You just know

The ones upset are neoliberals, not socialists. Free trade is the one good thing neoliberalism advocates for.

The tariffs on China are cumulative so the tariffs on China will be over 50 percent
This is projected to reduce our trade with China by over 90 percent, which will wipe millions of jobs out in China
The Chinese government will have serious internal instability if they don't quickly find 500 billion dollars to replace that trade
Japan faced this same situation in 1930 when we passed the Smoot-Hawley tariffs, and they chose Manchuria as their source of income

spending isn't coming down more than the cost increase from the tariff. people need to eat.

Imo if you support universal healthcare(so all of Europe and half of usa) you are a socialist

people have no money

lol here's at the very least 10% price increase on basically everything

are people supposed to think this is good?

Spending comes down

What alternate universe are you from?

Healthcare abolishes private property and means everything is commonly owned?

Inflation is 2.9% and the FED exists. You think theyre implementing global tariffs at risk of severing international alliances to bring down 2.9% inflation?

Orange Man bad

bro is living in 2016. find some new memes grampa

Bingo

Looking out for us working folks

You're literally posting at 5 in the morning, sidelined NEET.

They are just shills & bots & a few delusional people who got caught in the ideology. It's all paid by one of the factions of the elite cabals who are currently not in power.

fpbp
Nailed it

Or is there an actual valid economic argument against this?

Yeah, it's called Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, published in 1776.

Every “this is bad” sentiment is entirely because it’s trump/republican

deporting illegals that commit violent crimes is bad because?

saving billions in government waste is bad because?

reciprocal (but discounted) tariffs to countries that tariff the USA is bad because…?

Maybe if I set up these strawmen I can win an imaginary argument!

Fuck off, retard.

i for one am GLAD about the tariffs
mutts and migapedes have far too long had too much purchasing power
if tariffs go into effect long enough for your owners to raise prices they will be difficult to reduce even once tariffs are removed
prices go up easily, they don't go down easily
especially not when your conglomerate owners see that they can increase their profits even more

It's just that there are consequences to it, that aren't going to be exactly positive for the USA.
Trump is doing EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER to lower the public debt, but he's really giving up shit that no other country or politician would ever think of giving up.
He's given up soft power, the de-facto American military prominence and presence worldwide, the atomic non-proliferation, and now he's giving up inflation (because shit will inflate like a balloon), most of the welfare, even the parts that made sense, possibly debt to gdp ratio (but he might still be able to salvage that), and if SHTF real bad, American economic prominence worldwide (aka the petrodollar, that so many countries tried to undermine already).
He's not a visionary, but he's in a way right: 100% debt to gdp ratio is fucking unsustainable, and the economy is at full bubble already so he can't really push more on the gdp, the only way left is to lower the debt.
But he could have given up less power, and made things not as bad, but for longer, that's how it's usually done.

Trump is doing EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER to lower the public debt

No he isn't. Most of the deficit is caused by social security, which no politician will touch. The welfare state is the sacred cow of modern politics. All other possible cuts are peanuts in comparison.

Those are literally the arguments used though?

A retard, even a presidential retard, making disingenuous arguments need not be addressed. Fuck off back to Anon Babble, you ESL piece of shit.

Respond to these three loaded statements, or you lose!

Fuck off.

I'd say that's beyond his power, he'd get impeached in a matter of hours, but he's cutting whatever welfare is possible without excessive consequences (and still accepting more consequences than usual in recent memory)

It's a nothing burger just like the tariff on Canada and Mexico, people are being waybtoo emotional about this shit

nigga you know they actually includ VAT into the le tariff numbers
you should be able to realize why this is fraudulent even if you are a migapede

You'll be in prison, or more likely, dead.

they didn't think about it at all
they are imposing tariffs on an island with 0 permanent population that is also a part of Australia but with a different tariff rate
france is on there 8 times with 4 separate tariff rates
the UK gets a 10% tariff but the Falklands get a 41%
0 effort put in, so yea it's retarded

I have to laugh as the headlines as they were coming out:
10% BASELINE TARIFF
then, oh apart from china thats 34% (54% totes)
oh and vietmam thats another stupidly high %, oh and ... oh and... oh and...
25% auto parts, BUT this includes computer components and some other shit too

Trump campaigns for months on tariffing everyone

Trump gets elected

markets pump for weeks

*TWO MONTHS LATER*

Trump actually does it

markets suddenly seem to think it's the worst thing ever

Jewish tricks, jewish tricks everywhere.

this is what we all have been waiting for are you crazy want to split this plum or nut

They didn't include vat. They literally just used trade deficit ratios and called that "tarrifs". The retard thinks it's not fair that fucking Cambodia and Vietnam don't buy as much from the US

I legit believe he thinks trade deficits are bad because the word 'deficit' is in there

Us products will not have this 25% increase , nobody seems to mention this part.

Kek

t. Shill who got so assblasted that he's mirroring

He gives a ton of specific examples of percentages on certain products from certain countries.

lmao

Wtf are you retarded, this is the exact thing you faggots are screaming on msm and le reddit. Get off Anon Babble and stop wearing that dress your a man deal with it.

There are multiple layers of retardation with this

One, those aren't actual tariffs levied by other countries, they're a made up number by Trump where he divided the trade deficit with that country by US imports. Trade deficits are not inherently bad. If you buy food from a grocery store, but the grocery store doesn't buy anything from you that's a trade deficit. If you buy a tool from a tool store, but the tool store doesn't buy anything from you, that's a trade deficit. Food is important for obvious reasons, and that tool can be used to produce something more valuable than what you spent to acquire it. It doesn't take into account the total amount of dollars flowing in and out of a country, when considering foreign investments to the US it pretty much levels out any trade deficit.

So Trump is doing "retaliatory tariffs" against tariffs he made up.

Two, even if we assumed trade deficits are bad, he is tariffing countries we have a surplus with. If his magical "tariff percent" number goes below 10%, then it stays at 10%. For example, we have a fairly significant trade surplus with Australia, if you plugged in the numbers into his magical tariff formula it would be -107%. However we are still tariffing them by 10%

Three, he is tariffing tiny, obscure, uninhabited islands like the Heard and McDonald Islands, which have no humans, and are mostly inhabited by penguins, but mysteriously, Russia is one of the only countries receiving no tariffs

Four, there is a non-zero chance that he arrived at this formula through ChatGPT, because people have been asking AI to calculate tariffs for them and they come up with this same formula

Five, after everyone figured out the "formula" White House officials tried to reach out and explain their calculations, arguing that it isn't merely dividing the trade deficit by US imports.
ustr.gov/issue-areas/reciprocal-tariff-calculations
However the formula... is literally identical to dividing the trade deficit by US imports.

Holy shit go back to plebbit please

Their reflexively oppositional so all trump has to do is stand on high ground and they will suicide into him

Choosing their battles is a lost art to them

Also funny watching them advocate for sweatshops in poor countries to make their plastic slop.

Not to mention the environmentalist loons.
Trump is pretty much putting an end to outsourcing pollution-heavy production to shithole countries.
Instead, production will return to the West, where reasonable environmental standards prevail.

But of course because it's Trump, that's a bad thing now lmao

Yes quite literally, taxation is theft and you are using it for a commonly owned service

If we start getting revenue from tariffs we can cut taxes and keep our hard earned money. But that’s not all companies will be incentivized to produce in America, which means lots of good jobs for us. This is a good thing and short term market manipulation shouldn’t bother you. Buy the dip.

Observe that the 10-year treasury yield collapsed yesterday after the tariff announcement. This will lower the interest received by the Social Security Trust Fund and accelerate its insolvency date. The 10-year yield collapse also lowers the interest received by Federal retirees invested in the TSP G-fund so this screws them over as well. Along with the impending stock market collapse it's starting to look like Trump's real goal is to impoverish retirees but I don't understand why since old people are his strongest supporters.

Leftists object to everything Trump does. It just so happens that this time they happen to be correct, but not everything Trump does is good. A broken clock, etc.

I keked

Burgers will see that Russia isn't being tariffed and conveniently ignore it

Swallow that Russian cum.

500 BILION WIPED OUT

2 WEEKS

COLLAPSE

CHINESE JOB MARKET IS WORSE THAN YOU THINK

Hey that's me.

Russia is under heavy international sanctions right now, dumbass

What is the point of tarrif on a sanctioned country? trade is already forbidden

but at the same time this is good for blue collar americans which trumpman is standing up for that isn’t socialist or something just trying to make sense here

Yeah the guy who is trying to save America and put Americans first is a Russian puppet, even though he’s been investigated by every single agency in the government for almost a fucking decade and they found nothing.

Yeah pretty much
When we put tariffs on USA, it's a good thing
When they do it back, it's fascism

They have laws preventing legal trade with Russia, Iran, etc altogether.

mine is free-born americans embracing cheap strong-man fascism argentina style, at least peron could give a speech for 5 min without sounding like a fucking retard

Because they’re dnc shills. The faggots finally started coming here from Anon Babble. I knew it was probably going to happen one day. Looks like that day is sadly here.

fascism

Shut the fuck up retard

and so is president Donald J Trump dumb ass
they won't tell you stupid fucks but our president is being astrally assaulted by the cabal of libcuck moloch worshippers every waking minute and they will not stop until the markets are red so they can blame our god emperor for making all the right decisions to bring back our jobs and BTFO the chinks and the yuros economies forever!
Q was right again

tariffs le bad

VAT LE GOOD!

VAT LE GOOD BECAUSE IT IS NOT LE DISCRIMINATORY

so faggots would rather have a tax on everything vs just a tax on imports. when you ask us eurofaggots why we have VAT, we get all up in arms about "LE FREE HEALTHCARE LE LE LE LE TAXES ARE GREAT"

that's normal russian working hours

It still fascinates me that Anon Babble doesn't understand economics. That would be like Anon Babble not knowing what Japan is

what's a VAT? sounds like some gay commie bullshit
president trump is enacting the patriot tax for real patriots only, and faggots are going to cuck out and stay homeless and unemployed unless they pay up

He knows that. He's intentionally omitting that information because he's trying to deceive the readers because he a jew that sucks nigger dicks.

I have a college degree in economics. Tariffs are good if you want to increase domestic production.

Are those "socialists" in the room with us right now?
Oh I forgot that burgers politics are so far to the right that progressives, SJWs and democrats are "communists" to them. That's the understanding of politics they have.

EU politics are completely disconnetcted from the people, nobody wants those taxes, nobody wanted to tax co2 emissions and nobody voted for that.

oooh look at me I went into debt to suck circumcised jew cock for 4 years

shove it up your ass tranny
say the truth tariffs are a PATRIOT TAX for REAL PATRIOTS ONLY

u know what a salex tax is ? same thing but its ~20 %

Actual producers are not expanding production because spending that much CapEx on a 5-10 year project to increase domestic manufacturing when tariffs will likely no longer be here is retarded. Alcoa already said this when the Al tariffs dropped.

what the fuck it is commie bullshit I was right
I don't want to pay more for stuff unless I want to which is why I'll happily pay the patriot tax (for real patriots only)

The welfare state is the sacred cow of modern politic

It's literally the only useful part of the state. The only part that's beneficial to the common people. You remove it, the state loses its legitimacy.

Yet multiple companies are already increasing their production here. You act like we don’t have any production infrastructure here. We do. Some of it is idle.

The market will prove you're a retard but you'll be too retarded to accept it.

Then they must be teaching you garbage, since taxes are in no way good. If taxes increased production then logically they should be pushed to x1000000% percent.

The welfare state did not exist before 1935. Good to know the USA was not legitimate until then.

Too much politics in this bread. Everyone just get ready to buy the S&P 500 after it falls 50%. Tariffs will raise revenue for the federal government but wreck company profits if they have to eat the price increase. Or the tariffs will cause inflation if companies are able to pass the price increases on to the consumer. Lower profits and higher inflation means the S&P 500 is going down and down. Either way the markets will zoom back up after the Democrats regain power and end the tariffs so buy the S&P 500 when it's low but not right now.

Yep. They don't have any arguments. It's all Orange Man Bad and It's Not Fair. America just trolled the whole world. The freeloading is over.

based.png - 247x301, 31.45K

if they don't quickly find 500 billion dollars

They can just print them one way or another, say through QE.

but but BRRRR muh inflation

Money printing only causes inflation if it's hitting an economy that is already running hot or has other supply side constraints (see Biden/Covid) or if it's wasted on non-productive bullshit like DEI, not if it's properly hitting an economy in a slump with underutilized resources (see Global Financial Crisis).

That alone is not enough, they will eventually need to reorient their economy to serve internal demand instead of just muh exports to make it work, and that will take time. But also remember that your average Chang is a few IQ points higher up the ladder than Fentanyl Johnny McBurger who is now supposedly in charge of bringing back the glory days of US manufacturing. In an age where China is already busy designing fully automated dark factories.
