To add pressure into the market against the U.S. Once the rates came in higher, that was either weakening demand, or increased supply, which would mean China was selling. Imagine 15% of your economy walking away, that you depend on for access to capital market. No one has really stood up to China over the past decades. And the second that they back down, it's not just the U.S. that will want to renegotiate their trade deficits. Everyone will. Which is why they are being so stubborn. They depend on other nations for growth, they cannot stand alone, and they cannot sustain themselves.
