That means the liners willingly losing money by competing to charter ships even though the freight earnings (what they charge customers to move boxes) do not justify it.

It's inevitable that in the coming decade there is going to be a massive transfer of wealth from the pockets of the liners to the pockets of shipyards and the pockets of containership owners (like CMRE).
Another stock I was thinking was Yangzijiang Shipbuilding but they are in Singapore and I don't trust the Chinese.

Yangzijiang has something like a $24bn orderbook for the next 2-3 years most of which containerships on which they have extremely high margins (like 24% net margin in 2024, will be higher in the coming years). $900m net profit in 2024. Almost $4bn cash in hand. Entire company is valued at $6.5bn
