Its full of russians
Vodka. No seriously are you retarded. They were literally ideologically opposed to America so the America had to manipulate everything to crash the Soviet Union. It is not without injury though. America has been playing a long game of musical chairs and its only a matter of time when it stops
we are poor because america
the classic thirdie cope
Spotted the 12 year olds
they are not poor. They just waste their money
It's true tho you retard
Ful sanctions by the usa makes a lot of countries poor.
Also Russia is not that poor, people can still afford to travel abroad and stuff. The average German after rent and taxes has not much more money.
Unironically because they use less debt based finance
Their culture is tolerant to stealing, and to being subservient to thugs.
At the same time they do not value the intelligent minority who could improve their economy, if they have a say in how things work. And the ruling thugs also do not value them, because the minority likes their own freedom and prefers to go elsewhere.
You cannot build a rich country like that.
Mongols happened. Since Genghis Khan, the tyrannical government culture has remained the same. They're literally stuck in a society from 1000 yrs back.
Faggot jow were they a super power during ww1 ans 2 ?
They are poor because rheir popularion collapsed , they had brain drain after soviet collapse and then oligarchs and putin robbed them blind .
During the past 1000 years there hasn't been a time when their "leader" didn't rob them blind. Read some.
Russian society never recovered from the Mongol invasions
I'm being deadly serious, many academics refer to the phenomenon as the "Mongol (or Tartar) Yoke" and its ongoing impacts are hypothesized to be a key driving factor behind Russian society consistently failing to establish rule of law
Tsarist Russia was primarily run by Germans (and even then was wildly corrupt and inefficient hence the revolutions) and Soviet Russia was a colonial extraction economy that ran on the stolen wealth of eastern Europe until it could steal no more and collapsed
a planned econpmy is more efficient even if its as inefficient as the russians did it.
with modern big data and computers itd beat it easily every time.
im not saying the us should lead by example though(you guys areca lost cause)
Modern economies are too complex to plan
modern big data is the new oil because it can be used to preduct demand. The biggest argument agaisnt a planned economy(price signals) is moot.
then all that matters is supply.
nothing can reliably predict demand
computers are not magic and economies do not behave in a deterministic fashion
Fucks sake dude just look at what the US stock market is doing literally right now
Vladimir you need to get other sources than RT
After the USSR collapsed the US sicced the IMF on their asses
The only reason Russia isn't the poorest country in Europe is because it still has influence over Belarus
If they ever broke free they would immediately leave Russia behind just like the rest of eastern Europe
it could be argued that in a planned economy demand could be forecasted with even more accuracy than a market economy (like 25% accuracy vs +95%)
modern firms can predict demand with 25% accuracy?
The geography of Russia doesn't allow a democratic government. Difficult to hold on to such a vast area of land that isn't naturally well traversable. The way they've managed so far is through fear, propaganda and/or oil money. Some form of autocracy is needed to create fear and propaganda at this scale. And while autocratic systems might sometimes look efficient in the short term, they almost never are in the long term. Democracy hasn't spread in the last few hundred years across the globe because of some "woke feelsgood comfy" reasons nu/pol/ might want you to believe. Democracy has spread like crazy because it is ultimately just good for a country's economy.
If you'd remove all world borders and let AI create most stable country territories based on terrain, resources and population density, anything like the Russian current borders will never stay for long. It's just unstable. We are in a sort of a simulation run right now where Russia has temporarily settled into an unstable equilibrium point.
Slavs have low IQ
You can argue a lot of things but it doesn't make you right
The bigger something gets, the more complex it becomes and the more complex it becomes, the more difficult it is to predict and control
If you cant control your economy, you cannot plan your economy, thus planned economies are simply not viable at a large scale in the modern day
Thinking otherwise is a dangerous and foolish thing to do that will at best destroy your nations economy and at worst cause a massive famine killing tens of millions of your own people - just like pretty much every single other planned economy that has been attempted in the last century
The geography of Russia doesn't allow a democratic government. Difficult to hold on to such a vast area of land that isn't naturally well traversable.
more importantly, how do you incentivise production and innovation in a planned economy?
People aren't going to dedicate their lives to your spreadsheet just because you say so, they need a reason to work in your planned economy and it had better be a damned good one or they are going to find a more profitable use for their time
You can't just force them to either, because that incentivises avoiding work over doing it properly, as the soviets learned to their cost
poor
Russia has almost the same GDP PPP per capita as Japan. Would you describe Japan as poor?
data.worldbank.org
poorer than other arctic circle countries
The arctic circle countries are all very rich countries, do not have a sanctions problem, and do not spend as much share of GDP on the military or economic resilience as Russia has been doing
It certainly contributes, however it does not explain everything. For example Sweden and Norway also have low national debt (slightly over 30% of GDP). Sweden is not a petrostate like Norway; it is a normal economy.
poor people points
Lmao, wtf. Did you just pick the worst example possible to counter?
I can't
aka measured in real goods and services rather than in pieces of paper
Lol while ignoring actual gdp per capita . Things can be cheap but if you dont have money it doesnt matter lol. Russia is a gas station with nukes .
The biggest problem with a centrally planned economy isn't so much that data is lacking (the state can have access to exactly the same data as a company can), the biggest problem is that decision-makers are not subject to the same personal incentives and natural selection as they are in a market economy
So you're just going to ignore the mountain range in between the nation's capital and the Mississippi River Drainage Basin. And the fact that the western half of the country is a giant mountain range. And that one state is another giant mountain range exclave, and another state that is halfway across the ocean.
I assume that by "actual GDP" you mean nominal GDP. Nominal GDP is heavily influenced by the currency exchange rate, because it is, well, just a nominal value. If you compare nominal GDP, what you're mostly comparing is the exchange rate. The purpose of GDP PPP is to try to remove exchange rate effects and measure GDP in terms of actual goods and services.
East coast is connected to Mississippi basin easily still through ocean waterway access. Granted, West coast is sus.
With large countries it is inevitable that geography wont be perfect. But among large countries, USA is one of the best positioned in this case.
What happened?
Civil war, WWI, WWII, fall of the union and yesterday peasant becoming new elites and the government. There is just no stability and almost no point to invest, the best strategy is "if possible take what you can and run".
We gutted their industry after the CIA collapsed the Soviet Union.
Communism
It does matter though. Quality of life in russia is not great according to russians . There are a plethora of reasons why nominal gdp of russia is shit and will continue to be shit . Russia is closer to falling back into being a third world country than rhe other way around.
