china has all the manufacturing
Not quite. They're not quite that good at the really high-end manufacturing, which is why they keep seething and malding whenever high precision assemblies, semiconductors, and very value-added goods aren't available to import.
That manufacturing overreliance also leads to another problem. They must export at all times to keep their economy afloat. They lack a robust services industry to absorb even small shocks in manufacturing demand. The US will bitch, whine, gripe, groan and moan if they have to live without imports but China has to move product or else their country grinds to a halt. They stand to lose more in a stalling contest if they do not quickly find new customers, and because the US is one of the largest consumer economies in the world, China now has to spread it out to the rest of the world.
he sees China as an adversary if not enemy
That goes without saying. He's got a bone to pick with China and I think he wants to go for a femur to break.
he thinks he's buddies with Putin
I don't think that's going to last if it's true. The US has set a pretty strong alliance with Ukraine and his term will not change this. Neither country wants to give up. Ukraine is in existential crisis. Russia stands to lose a lot if they surrender, not to mention their services sector is hollowed out from going full wartime economy since 2022 and pushing so much QE that the Russian defense industry can no longer export weapons without losing money.
