Fellow vets, I am trying to submit disability claims to the VA to try and get a disability rating.
I served 5 years including a deployment (non-combat) and was exposed to hazing, poor diet options, all kinds of mental shit like witnessing death on our tour, etc. Also hearing issues due to the constant machinery being used and neck/back issues from my job requiring me to stand and monitor screens all the time.
I went to medical very few times and none of this stuff is recorded, but people are saying it doesn't really matter because you can express this all to the VA psychiatrists for a rating.
Do any of vetbros have any advice to claim mental health, tinnitus, neck/knee injuries?

File for *everything*, anything you even so much as have a slight twinge about. I tore some cartilage in a joint weightlifting - boom, 50%. Sleep apnea, boom 50%. PTSD, boom 50%.
VA math is fucked though so it takes a lot of % to get to 95%+ where you become total disabled. For example, if you’re 90% disabled and want to get the rest of the way, you need an *additional* 50% disability, because 50% of 10% is the five you need to round up. Sound retarded? Welcome to VA math.
Also you ideally want this stuff IN your medical records when you get out. All that “suck it up” bullshit when you’re in is just designed to fuck you over later in life. They will actively fight you if it’s not in your medical records. You might want to consult with a speciality attorney before you even begin - they’ll take like 40% of your back payments but they get results.
Full disability with a spouse is just over $4000 a month. I never have to work again, and I spend my days trading crypto and playing video games. It’s a good life; for anyone else who is trying to get yours, good luck, seriously. For those of you Americans looking for a career, join the fucking military. This is exactly my issue. I was stationed with a unit of alpha males who would call you a pussy if you complained about being tired, sick, feeling out of place. The only shit on my record is wisdom teeth and vaccines. But I just started going to a therapist where I've been talking about my military to post-military life. Hoping he can fire up some PTSD/trauma diagnosis so I can use it in my claim. Plus I have vet buddies who can vouch for me.

With that said, I can feel my body fall apart year after year. It's all documented though. I can't eat bread anymore, it appears to be an immunological condition. I can't eat over 80% of what I used to. Probably toxic environment exposure. Grunts will burn and dump shit so long as they don't get caught. Long nights of 24 hour shifts has led to my heartrate regularly dropping below 30 bpm at rest. I joke that if I lost the will to live, I would actually be able to die of boredom. Sleep apnea will probably go neurological in a few years. Regular extremity injuries apply. Don't think tinnitus will apply, my audiology tests are better than when I entered service.
These days I work a desk job after switching branches to the chair force, so the list shouldn't grow too much. Field work is never as clean as anyone would like, and that's where the weird stuff pops up that hurts your body. I like it enough to stick it out for twenty.

GI doc is having me get a intestinal biopsy because the symptoms and testing present exactly like celiac disease. I just have to eat gluten containing food for a few more weeks before they put me under so they can get a good sample. I'm well acquainted with the toilet these days.
Oh well, if the diagnosis is definitive, it's an automatic 30%. If they detect wasting, it'll bump up to 50% or 80%. Regardless, the only consequences are that I can't eat at most restaurants, I have to cook more at home, and I have to take a good multivitamin and some hematogen to supplement the iron cravings. No big loss.
I have to thank some random anon about seeing a doctor. I was overheating badly during physical exertion to the point where I'd have to literally steam off in a deep freezer back when I took a short hiatus between branches working nights. That visit caught a bunch of stuff I ignored in my prior contract.

I just started my disability claim. For the physical stuff you definitely need medical paperwork otherwise the VA doctor who assess you will screw you,
PTSD however might be easier to claim (like other anons said) you don't really get paperwork for having your friends die.
