Tariffs are incredibly common with agricultural products. Normally people say fuck it: the cheapest/best man wins, import whatever you want and fuck domestic products if they can't compete.
The problem is that this can easily get out of hand, and you can destroy your domestic agricultural industry because mega farms overseas dunked on your small-town, local farmers. Bjorsnigger Haraldson cannot possibly compete with industrial scale dairy farms, or thirdies selling massive amounts of dirt cheap grain (Ukraine). In an unregulated environment Bjorsnigger Haraldson goes out of business due to foreign competition.
Do you really think its a good idea for all of a nations farmers to shut down because they cant compete with cheap slop from overseas? Do you really think that, for example, the USA should just let Chinese slave farms flood our market with their stupid shit and take over our agriculture? But you don't think this applies to other people, especially small frozen shitholes like Norway? Norway literally cant grow anything as-is. If we dumped our shit into their market their farms would go out of business the next day, compromising both the culture of farming, self-sufficiency, and national security.
