The food in China (at least Shanghai) was fresher than American food by and large, pretty much the majority of Chinese food is made with fresh vegetables. Not my favorite cuisine for flavor, but it’s hearty enough. I actually enjoyed the way Shanghai people eat breakfast than Americans do, lots of dumplings with good ingredients and greens, lightly fried dough, and eggs

Factory jobs in the US were horrible prior to the post WWII to early 1970s period of prosperity. That period had everything, on a global scale, going for it to cause conditions to be good. It cannot be repeated. You would need to duplicate everything from the collapse of the British empire, the WWII strategic bombing campaigns, to highly specific manpower distribution issues, impose a very specific type of tax policy, and run an economy that resulted in a major crisis in the early 1970s BECAUSE the 1950s/1960s growth WAS NOT sustainable. It wasn't an equilibrium, it was a weird period of artificial growth cause by both a destructive currency system and a specific economic dependency on US production that only existed in the 1950s, that is why it began to unwind in the 1960s and collapsed in the 1970s.
