My country doesn’t even have private schools and our education is still world class level. Private educations always leads to small number of schools getting most of the resources and leaving most of the country with shit education. But a small elite isn’t capable of turning the boat for the whole nation. India has good private education for it’s elite and look hiw that place is. America has had private schools and they're also good. "Private education" in this context means that instead of public schools being run by local governments, schools are run like a business by private owners. Which means their point is to make money, not to be effective. Private schools only work by being better than everyone else because the elite go there and pay huge amounts of money for the privelege. Poor or lower class people can't afford that, so privately-owned public schools have to find other ways to make money: usually in ways that compromise the education of the majority.

Letting the elites separate into their own private services disconnects them from what the consequences of their actions are on shared services. Who cares about the state of schooling if you send yojr kid to a private school anyway? Who cares about funding the firefighters if you can contract the private ones? Who cares about what's going on on the streets if you live in a gated community?
