I was thinking that Trump could single handedly win the new upcoming cold war against china a single move.

China can survive losing US exports even if it hurts.
But losing both US and EU would cause half of it's factories to be forced to relocate as losing 65% of their buyers would make them go bankrupt otherwise. Also places like India,Japan and Korea would in turn be flooded with Chinese goods at dumping prices and would likely also have to limit imports.

The EU is always soft and weak but if it has no other route even they will end up putting up sanctions in retaliation and if they have the balls they can really hurt US tech companies.

However they really want to make a deal. Trump now is asking them to cripple their economy by buying only US gas at overpriced rates and pay the US a yearly protection fee which is unlikely to be accepted even if the EU leadership is almost spinless.

The master stroke now could be to tell the EU the following:
0% for 0% tariffs with you if you accept to mirror my tariffs at least on china and on possibly other countries that antagonize America's interests.

The EU would likely take that deal. Losing the Chinese market is less painful than losing the American market.

Now china would be screwed EU and US would have a trade block like back in the day and they could use it force the hand of all other countries to give them amazing trade deals just to keep tariffs a bit lower.

The fundamental problem the US has is that they cannot make promises anymore. Of any kind. Because Trump has proven beyond any doubt that he will break any promise on a whim if he feels like it. "Stand by NATO" means nothing. "Stop Greenland rhetoric" means nothing. Nothing the US under Trump says means anything anymore. I don't know what that means for negotiations.
