Against better judgement I coated mine with BOILED linseed oil. I saw old production videos where rifle stocks were simply dipped in a giant vat of linseed oil then hung dry. I think you'll appreciate the look and feel of it when its done. What's the worst that could happen? One less CMP stock in the world?

It probably is just supply and demand. If domestic mints are making chonkers, they're in troy oz. So the domestic supply is greater than the imported gram weight bars. The price is driven up with a smaller pool of buyers.

There's a similar weird pricing effect in other markets too like with travel trailers. Tiny sub 2000 lb travel trailers have an oddly high market price and often cost as much as trailers twice their size. Because the market for them is smaller too.
