I understand some tariffs on refined goods if you wanted to bring back manufacturing but instead trump is tarifficking everything which will make it that raw materials being imported from 3rd world countries and built into auto parts in the USA will also be affected for example. The reason why Chinese, Europeans, Japanese and South-Koreans do not buy american cars has been because of the shitty protectionist policies from 60 years ago which put tariffs on many of the Euopean auto makers and US cars just ended up not being competitive elsewhere(big& horrible fuel economy)
