taxing other countries causes inflation
Taxing other countries causes inflation
You're right, we're in for stagflation instead
consumer prices go up
wages stagnate
I cant recall the image you posted being used in a non-bait post in well over a decade
It doesn't matter if its good or bad. If it's trumps idea the libtards will attack it and seethe
step 1. the tariff is implemented
step 2. you are charged a duty by the company you order from in addition to the cost of the item
step 3. you pay more for the item because you are paying for both the cost of the item and the duty
step 4. the cost of goods increases, which is inflation
Tariffs are a tax on American consumers, not a tax on other countries. Retard.
doesnt matter if its good or if its bad if trump does it the migatards will worship it.
Then all other countries should drop their tariffs to zero, sounds like a win win.
if it causes inflation, you are not taxing other countries
costs increase, which is inflation
We *really* need flags on this board
I have to know if I share a country with this hylic
How can you be so confident? Think about it logically, the President of the United States of America says it's a tax on foreign countries. This guy have the best economists at his disposal and this is how he sees it.
yet you seem completely confident that the government of the worlds most powerful nation is completely wrong.. This of course is on the backdrop of you (most likely) having zero degrees in econ from any University.
Think Anon, Think! Does it make sense that you are right and the government of the US being wrong?
Inflation is the rate of increase in prices over a given period of time. Inflation is typically a broad measure, such as the overall increase in prices or the increase in the cost of living in a country.
Is he wrong
The government of the US was founded under the principle of congress having “power of the purse”. That means taxation goes through congress. Which is why tariffs required congressional approval until the 1970s. And the definition was never changed, they got around that requirement by stating that tariffs were “emergencies”. If the founding fathers believed tariffs were a tax, I believe them.
This is one of those moments where the entire credentialed class is wrong and some random op is right
Yes because that's not what inflation is retard.
Grab a dictionary, ignore the obvious propaganda fake definition.
Webster
2
: a continuing rise in the general price level
Is he wrong?
Inflation was redefined because previously it referenced to an increase into the money supply. Obviously printing a shit ton of money and giving it demons is not very popular, so it was redefined to "an increase in prices" so now when plebs say "hey why are your printing tons of money and giving it to demons" the demons can deflect and say the prices haven't gone up
It actually does mention that in the Webster definition as the "usual" cause for inflation. I left it out because obviously these tariffs are an unusual situation resulting in inflation.
I love that response.. Seems like a great way to counter an appeal to authority argument, appealing to a different authority (in this case a more "pure" form of authority).
yeah that definitely hasn't been happening for the last 40 years already
The constitution is objectively the ultimate authority on governance, thoughever.
It's a shit arguement because tarrifs are aggressive economic actions by foriegn entities that in all honesty should be classified as acts of war. Yes from a total system perspective it's bad for consumers but we don't live under one unified system, we have various actors with various interests
Yes, checks and balances; that’s how the system works. Congress also declares war, as to your “act of war” statement.
Giving one man the ability to raise taxes by 30% overnight on all goods because he feels like it is absolute tyranny and would be grounds for revolution; the founding fathers took less from Britain. We enjoy the privilege of being protected from the intellectual and emotional failures of a single man, king, or despot, until now.
It's not 30% on all goods it's 30% on foreign goods also Jackson did 50% so their is already precedent
You know the leaders of Congress have publicly stated they support Trump's actions, that they could rescind the authority, and they won't do so?
Yes that's wrong, dipshit.
I sure love being (((protected))) from whatever by an entire legion of pieces of shit funding themselves with my money.
would be grounds for revolution; the founding fathers took less from Britain.
The founding fathers would not care that your cheap overseas junk toy "memorabilia" for the new Marvel slop movie imported by a giant transcontinental organization got a little bit more expensive would be grounds for a "revolution". Keep dreaming though tubbie.
Yes that's wrong, dipshit.
okay here's the unabridged
a continuing rise in the general price level usually attributed to an increase in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services
The definition allows for unusual circumstances (such as tariffs) by qualifying monetary expansion as only being the "usual" cause, not the ONLY cause. So tell me how it's wrong. Or just keep saying the definition is wrong and tell me which dictionary says the real definition of inflation you retarded niggercattle.
jackson
Was an absolute dogshit president who had no idea what he was doing, literally ignored the Supreme Court ruling to do whatever he wanted. Great example, a traitor just like trump
I’m sure the founding fathers would have been okay with 40% of their net wealth disappearing overnight because Trump gets word that the Chinese think he is stupid. “China tariffs now 280%!!!!!!” And America loses trillion in stock valuation because of woke emotional imbecile. Surely, this is what the founding fathers had in mind. Europe made fun of my hair? Throw another 50% tariff on ‘em.
U right, clearly the founding fathers would prefer 0 exports because everyone else tarrifed us without consequence
Net worth down 40%
Nigga George Washington would not be doing leveraged option plays that hinged on importing global slop to the US.
Andrew Jackson didn’t even want to tariff the south, but at the time tariffs were 85% of federal government revenue. I guarantee you nobody from history would call for tariffs today because we DONT NEED THEM. Why do i say that? Because those men were forward thinking intellectuals for their time. They didn’t regurgitate outdated theories from centuries ago. Imagine if we all stayed like Spain and had extremely mercantilist economies. How has history treated Spain from the 18th century onward?
Is it a coincidence Spain and Great Britain took completely different trajectories in history? Or Spain remained mercantilist while Britain used India to maintain Proto-free trade/globalization?
Wasted quads
Jackson should be on Mount Rushmore for stymieing the federal reserve for a century
And the founding fathers would have gotten megaboners for tariffing the fuck out of every other country on the planet if it meant more national sovereignty (they were big on that if you didn't pick up on their general tone in the Federalist papers). They would have laughed at people losing money on investing in foreign companies and governments that are simply extracting resources and wealth from the nation
Don't like it? Go get your rifle and we'll see how far your convictions go
they didn't regurgitate old ideas
The USA is literally an attempt to recreate Rome
You don’t need leverage to see a 40% peak to trough decline in equities. Tell Cheeto man to walk back all his “trade deal progress” right at the onset of a recession, with fiscal spending already at 7% of GDP, with a constrained Fed that cannot materially lower rates without the bond vigilantes throwing a mutiny, and that 40% will be here before you can say “impeached after the midterms”.
Inflation is expansion of the monetary supply. Full stop. Not price increases, not velocity of money. It's money printing.
Any other definition is semantic propaganda designed to protect the money printers devaluing the currency for their own benefit.
Are these 40% equities drops in the room with us right now leftoidschizo? Take your lithium.
down 22% peak to trough
down 15% in 2 weeks alone after “liberation day”
Do you understand that the only reason the market bounced is because Trump WENT BACK on his promises? Or in your language, he “cucked out”? The morning after the night bond yields were blowing up he came out with the 90 day tariff pause. After that he came out with the China tariff exemptions. After that he forbade nutlick from going on television and locked Navarro in a room. Then, he told Bessent to keep repeating “China trade deal coming” every single day
It’s damage control from an inept retard; if there was a legislative body to prevent his emotional tantrums maybe we’d have ignored the whole dump 20% step and ended up with a more reasonable policy.
60323398
60323446
cheeto man
nutlick
bad take after bad take in xis whole comment history
I cannot take this child seriously
don’t make fun of orange daddy it makes me flustered!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you HAVE to pick a side!!!!!
disagreement? Not in my heckin democracy™ you fascist!
I can do it too. Are you quite finished being a petulant baby?
You're seething that you missed out on a 20% dip buying opportunity when you thought it would go to 40% because the voices in your head told you it was going down that far lmao.
You don’t have to pick a side, I’m telling you that Trump rules like a tyrant and his decisions are objectively terrible; that’s it. Tariffs DO cause price increases, and one man should NOT have the power to increase prices across the board because of his feelings. That’s it. Look how he acted when Canada made fun of him (then he walked it back) look how he acted when Europe made fun of him.
WHY should Americans pay a higher tax because a MAN feels offended??? Can you tell me that?? Is that not how the numerous monarchs of Europe got themselves in trouble?
You are such a fucking faggot. Believe it or not we do want trade protections and we don't like how all of our jobs have left the country. Good God
That's a lot of words excusing tyranny that enabled trump to rise to power in the first place
He is a SYMPTOM of the issues facing the us (and the west in general) that is overwhelmingly labelled as a CAUSE, because our culture has conditioned most people to forget what happened last week, let alone multiple years or decades ago
Trump would not be here if we had sound fiscal, domestic, and foreign policy instead of being the worlds punching bag and piggy bank for the entirety of the last 50 years (further back if you want to split hairs)
He's a total egomaniac and likely a shit individual (I certainly don't know him, but a business colleague is a friend of their family), and ironically one of the very few people who can weather the onslaught of humiliation rituals that would break most humans, while speedrunning a foreign policy fix that would take multiple admins to "do it right" which we both know is not happening
We either eat the short term fallout or wait until the inevitable "credit reset" war. I know which one I'm rooting for
Who is “we”? Not small businesss who are begging that tariffs will crush their minuscule profit margins, and definitely not corporations who want their stocks to go down 30-50%.
jobs
Unemployment in the US is at its 50 year lows. Factory jobs are open and regularly complain they can’t get enough people as is. Looks like Americans don’t want those types of jobs
So really, who is this “we”? Why are we doing what shithole third world countries do? (Tariff)
About 6 or so months ago 80 million people voted to elect him, that is the we. And he won the midwest, the blue belt, EXPRESSLY on the trade issue. Because Democrats had abandoned their blue dog demographic there. Dipshit fucknugget
I voted for Trump as well, but I wouldn’t have if I had known he was going full retard
I’m sure things are going to feel much better for you and your constituents when UE is 7%, the budget is forced to be balanced and GDP is -2.5%, and inflation is still running 3.5-4.5% this time next year
Oh look. Trump tweets and the Dow down 1k in minutes. Love to see it. One man and his insatiable desire for attention via DAILY press releases and we all suffer. I miss you, Joe
countries dont react to tarrifs just because muh usa and companies are not going to pass the cost to consumers
Lmao it is funny that migatards are realizing how free markets work and are actively becoming weird neo-statists.
No you didn't. He has done every single thing he promised to do. His original calling card, since 2015, was immigration and trade. He is going in hard on immigration and trade. Not a single real Trump voter "regrets" it, you may never vote for another man in your entire life who actually fulfills what he said he was going to do so closely. Why do you have to lie and posture? Just say you don't agree and don't like his platform, that's fine. But not a single one of us real Trump voters are anything other than ecstatic right now.
America doesnt want that.
They want 0 tariff but still have tariffs of their own into other countries.
Biden's presidency had the largest boom of US manufacturing since they started keeping records due to the infrastructure bill and CHIPS act, along with some targeted tariffs.
I am positive that you did not care about that. I am willing to bet you think that's a lie.
Tariff China 25% and the rest of the world 10%, okay. That’s what I voted for. Not 145%. You don’t even know the implications of that, we are 100% guaranteed a stagflationary recession until straight up deflation kicks in if we stick to the tariffs that are proposed. 70% on Vietnam? 50% on Europe? Say goodbye to the last 15 years of growth.
And how about instead of tariffs, you raise taxes across the board and create manufacturing versions of the CHIPS act? You know? Maybe some smart policy? Not just tax everybody 30% and then cut taxes for the top 1% while still running a 7% budget deficit.
I'm crying. You actually believe this
How does a real Trump voter differ from any other voter that voted for Trump?
and how about instead of doing [something new that we haven't tried in about 80 years since the last time we were booming in manufacturing] you try [the same old thing, a fake massive pork bill that actually just makes DC and the Jews richer while failing to actually do anything of lasting benefit for the working people]
You don't fix the system by continuing to perpetuate it. We bleed jobs because we shattered any and all trade protections over a period of 70 years.
you don't get it anon, you're crazy, America was doing so great under Biden!!!!
looks like I'm going to have to hold on to these since the inevitable leftist gaslighting and retconning has picked up. They literally FORCED HIM TO NOT RUN it was such a fuckbad economy.
Like seriously
ummm yeah we were on the defensive in Virginia and New Mexico but clearly the status quo had the American people happy!
That’s capitalism. If you don’t like it you can go live in a centrally planned economy, since it bothers you so much that x% of population aren’t in steel mills and x% of population aren’t in coal mines.
America GDP per capita is among the highest in the world, Americans pay among the least taxes in the world, America has an unemployment rate in the lower 4% range, and everybody in every other country WANTS to come here.
American warehouse workers make more money than Europe’s engineers. America is by far the richest nation that has ever existed
But according to you it’s broken. Okay.
"Capitalism" isn't a real thing. I live in a country. A country that was founded on principle that the national, federal government's first job is to secure the border and handle international regulation. That is, trade and immigration. Not turn into a massive, monstrous tax extraction scheme of its own people. Go rub your hands somewhere else Chaim.
Since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office in January 2021, more than 775,000 manufacturing jobs have been added to the economy. The growth is expected to continue, with the Biden-Harris Inflation Reduction Act estimated to create 336,000 manufacturing jobs a year until 2035.
In contrast, more than 200,000 manufacturing jobs were lost during former President Donald Trump’s single term. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic manufacturing job growth had all but plateaued under the Trump administration.
Like I said, you think it's a lie despite being able to easily look it up. Like I said, you don't actually give a shit about manufacturing in America.
Thank you for fanfiction, but we're trying to have an actual conversation about manufacturing in the US. Biden was not fit to be president for another 4 years due to his age and cognitive decline, the Democrats were right to want someone else in, but he was very solid domestically. Democrat elitism and just constantly pointing to the stock market despite average people feeling the effects of runaway inflation (a trailing effect of Trump just printing money during his first term - do not forget that the covid gibs were all signed by DJT), along with a passive international policy involving Israel led to him being massively unpopular with both parties.
His lack of popularity has nothing to do with the fact that he was a boon for US manufacturing.
Joe Biden's economy was excellent you idiot American. Record Low Unemployment(TM), jobs for everyone!
They don't have blanket tarrifs Anon.
Your graph literally shows an increase in jobs for everyone, dipshit.
WE WANT MANUFACTURING BACK IN THE US
okay, here's policy doing that, but seems like Americans don't even want manufacturing jobs or those jobs are so shitty and pay less that they're being filled by immigrants
NO NOT LIKE THAT
Trump's deregulation policies and weakening of unions are going to make those manufacturing jobs even shittier to work.
