Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zeland. Or just circulate inside the EU. There are like 20+ countries inside with different coultures, food, climate and historical sights.

New York has always been a shithole but movies make it seem like this amazing beautiful place, a lot of tourists get hit with the same feelings you did. Really the only good things to see in America is nature related, everything else kind of sucks. Even then the big natural attractions like Grand canyon and Mt Rushmore kind of suck because of all the tourists.

European newspapers are now full of stories of people being detained and deported when trying to visit the US. There's a general perception that US immigration has taken an arbitrary approach when deciding who is allowed into the country. It's not a place people are willing to travel to unless they absolutely have to go there. No tourist attraction is worth the risk of being randomly selected to be put in an immigration cell for two nights.

Albania desperately wants to join the EU. They've been cracking down on corruption and organized crime for years now, and as a result tourism is booming. 2024 saw 11.7 million visitors, a 15.2% increase compared to 2023.

Its tourism industry has virtually no downsides: it's close by (1.5-2 hours by plane for most of Western Europe), Mediterranean beaches and food, lovely weather, plenty of nature. A dirt poor, cheap country where time stood still. It's been completely isolated until covid ended, we don't know anything about the country at all, which adds to the attraction.

Bulgaria may be next, for pretty much the same reasons (although it's already part of the EU). We don't know anything about the Black Sea at all.
