Zoomer here, what was the 2008 financial crisis like? I was only 10. How did it impact you?
Zoomer here, what was the 2008 financial crisis like? I was only 10. How did it impact you?
I had just graduated and applied to literally 1000 places with no success
I was only 14/15
My step dad was laid off from his job, he was an electrician.
I remember him and my mom being pretty scared about losing the house which was built/bought about 3 years before.
Wish I was a couple years older and bought Bitcoin shortly after but I didn't really start dabbling in crypto until college and even then I had limited funds
Curious too about how older anons remember 2008
back then minimum wage meant minimum wage and everybody was trying to get those minimum wage jobs. The benefit was the price of prostitutes but you zoomers ruined that with your onlyfans for yourselves though idc. Im going to be 36 this year. :(
I had a job in a science to tech transfer company, and survived on a tax gibs research project. 100 people in 2008, 25 in 2010.
Getting gas one morning, it was half the price it had a year ago. No traffic jams on the daily commute.
Once called an American car company, the department boss responded, because he was the only one left in a department of 50.
Being a yuropoor slave, taxed into eternal government dependency, I had no investments, so the stock market crash didn't affect me directly.
lot worse than now
It was the last year of the normal finance world.
My mom got laid off. I was pretty selfish/dumb at the time and would go around saying things like "the economy is fake, everything seems fine to me", but that's because I had no stake in the game of life yet.
Absolutely nothing happened. It's an absolute meme. It's been hyped up as if it was like the memevirus hysteria level of panic in everyone combined with Weirmar-esque hyperinflation. In reality 99.995% of people didn't even notice anything was going on at all.
the cool thing is that banks can do same shit even after that, so it will repeat eventually even without tariffs lmao
I got sent home a couple of times from my part time job. It was pretty nice cause my job was shit and losing like $8.50 an hour was fine as long as I get out of that place early. Imagine that back then 8.50 for a part time was pretty good, now it's close to $20 per hour in some places. Also unless you were in stocks, nobody gave a fuck that the 15% of the 1% that owns 85% of the global stocks are getting fucked. Your average American or whatever that has a blue collar or even a white collar work won't care since a lot of them are not in stocks.
i cant tell. the difference i think its that zoomiers consider being neet normal so they dont complain as much.
I lost my job, and start applied to others but 0.
So I decided to take all my savings and I moved to London and Istarted to work for Starbucks
I was in grad school so I insulated. Graduated in 2009 and things still sucked ass. Worked a bunch of shitty jobs until I got a decent government contracting job in 2011 which turned out to be a good career move.
Our company started bleeding money in 08 and died in 2012. Shit doesn't end overnight, crashes like that unwind for years
In 2008 America went into a depression it never recovered from.

Just like now
I had a girl in my class who had to drop out of school because her parents lost their house in 2008 and had to live in their car for a month before moving out to look for jobs and couch surf in an out of state's relatives place. That sounds pretty bad to me.
That's a retarded zoomer take. I'm 34 and I can remember exactly where I was the day Lehman brothers collapsed lol.
Millions of people who don't know a stock from a bond lost their houses and job
just graduated college. i was paying $250/mo in rent, some part time work, no one was hiring in my field of study anymore. lived okay because cost of living was cheap. and people were selling all sorts of shit on craigslist for next to nothing, stuff that zoomer resellers are now probably listing online for hundreds of dollars.
People were losing their homes and jobs left and right, just because you weren't born yet doesn't mean it didn't happen.
I’m about to graduate into a recession
I won’t even be able to afford a shotgun for a dignified death, will I?
*1971
Not really, I got a job last winter and it was 100% offer rate and I could pick whoever I wanted
It's not really comparable because I'm more skilled now but anecdotally I see tons of minimum wage places hiring driving around
That's because nothing has actually happened yet.
I was a teen and it didn't affect me at all
I just remember hearing about it constantly in the news
Lots of people lost their homes and entire small towns closed down. Not even kidding.
You're not a recent grad now though
I was in my thirties trucking slong at work. I remembered donating eight boxes of donuts to Occupy Wall street. My GF now wife at the time thought I was bananas but that was the energy I wanted to direct towards. I am also that gold digging anon that educates neets on bagging a woman of wealth. During those times she was paying for our dinner dates I felt like an escort st times. I had a decent job and it didnt influence too much of my world financially.
gold digging anon that educates neets on bagging a woman of wealth
Teach me, master.
I live in East Europe and it literally didn't affect us, we were on an upward trajectory throughout the whole thing. I've already been lurking Anon Babble back then and I dont even remember that much being said about it. Certainly by 2010 nobody was even talking about it anymore except for /new/ schizos sperging about how quantitative easing will implode society and guess what, it fucking didn't
Many economies have effectively never properly recovered from the effects of 2008. Look at average growth rates before and after.
It didn't affect me personally. But I do remember my college teachers saying they were so broke they had to reuse pic related 5-10 times each
Also some of our important classes got shut down so we had to go in during lunch hour and the teachers would teach it for free. God bless them
2008 was as bad as its made out to be, people unironically went homeless
Teach me, master.
You ask my child and I will let you know. Those plapjack memes? They arent a lie. You have to go through the journey and lowerr your morals. The more degenerate the higher the chwnces of your success rate depending on a lot of factors. Such as how you look, what your personality, your hygiene and all that PUA stuff. Throw away your ego, if you truly are a NEET you are a parasite looking for another host. Depending on your morals will determine if you will explore same genders etc I am not here to judge. My morals went to fucking slampigs and older women in their sixties. I was looking for tye big shebang. The lady that had a lot of wealth and would have a trust to leave you if you become her human sex toy. Get a vasectomy dont have kids too much burden. Treat those old ladies with respect, kindness but need to find them. I usualky look for divorced women and the entrepreneur business types. I judge them based on their attire, what bag and what car they drive to determine if I continue dating her or not. Women have no morals when they divorced. They want that young stallion trophy to show off yah she is banging this stud as projection. Live the escort life. Part of it is letting ego go and being demoralized. I still had a job as a cover because people ask questions. I took that money and mined crypto. basically took the money i earned and reinvested but have this parachute because of the gold digging mentality.
Minimum wage jobs have changed the way they staff and schedule people. It used to be that you'd get 5 days of 8 hour shifts a week, maybe 2 of those days were 10 hour shifts.
Now you get 2 days of 8 hour shifts at one job, 2 days at another job, and 2 days at a 3rd job, and on your one day off, you might have a coworker text to cover for you or get called in by the manager to do this or that.
So they're basically always hiring, always losing part time employees, always needing someone to fill in here and there. Keep in mind I haven't worked a minimum wage service industry job in 9+ years.
For the customers, it sucks, because maybe there's a qt working at one of these places and you go back in the following week to flirt some more, but she's not there. Now you might not see her again for 3 more fucking weeks, and the next time you go in to flirt and are all hyped up with a half boner in your pants and your game face on, it's a gender goblin there instead. So now you're stuck wondering if it's better to just sleep with the gender goblin instead, for the sake of convenience and to preserve your pride. The whole system is fucked.
Nobody knew jack shit about how any of this works till they found out if wall st goes broke everyone else does do to their unregulated securities market.
I had to change careers
Today that seems kinda impossible, but you have options like content creator and shit
But still, plapjack? yukkk
I had to change careers
Same, finance -> software dev. I don't know where to go from here.
i'm 35. i didn't really notice it because i was in college and part time waging. my dad was laid off for a while from his factory maintenance mechanic job. but i think it was pretty bad for a lot of people.
If your parents worked in banking then it was a bad time. Family stress, money, plus if any significant part of your comp was stock, shit was really bad. It completely changed the trajectory of our entire family and of my life personally even if I hadn't realized it yet.
