I worked in a factory before I got my first internship offer. It's the most mind-numbing work imaginable. Have to stare at an assembly line for 8 hours a day every shift either starts early as shit or end late as shit. No AC. Can't listen to music/podcasts because phones are a fire hazard. If there is radio, you quickly realize stations only plan for exactly 1 hour of content that just repeats over-and-over throughout the day. Supervisors have literally never heard of the phrase "work smarter not harder" and are actively disdainful towards clever solutions.

No american wants to work in a factory. You are reduced to little more than a stand-in for a machine and given absolute shit pay. There is a reason why the factories went abroad. The labor was cheap sure, the marginal pay between what they could pay americans vs your average chinese rural villager who has to trek to the fucking place to work for 10 hours and then spend 1 hour walking back is immense, but that's because americans would demand an actual liveable salary and worker's rights and would not subject themselves to the conditions these factories are in.
These companies will not move overseas unless they somehow have the opportunity to no longer pass on the cost down the line somewhere, and even then, highly likely they won't move back to the US quickly. You can bet the salaries won't be any good either. Any factory worker is replacable. It is a dead-end job too. You are employed in the role you are in and you stay there.
I'm an engineer, I get paid to automate factory workers. Those jobs won't last long even if they bring them back. Then my job will get replaced by jeets. Then the jeets get replaced by AI.
