I think the most sensible strategy if I'm looking at the U.S. is to drop my tariffs, continue business as usual, and if Trump stabs me in the back I go absolutely mental and call attention to it, throw the tariffs back on, and only look more righteous and correct. Meanwhile, if you really want to put those tariffs back up, just wait until the next administration and throw them back on and see what happens, but there's legitimately not really a point to even do something so shady unless absolutely necessary. If you're making shoes, drop your tariffs so Trump drops his, you get on his good side, and you can just operate exactly as you were, because no one is manufacturing shoes in the U.S. cheaper than yours anyway anytime soon.

The numbers are completely cooked. India for example, does not impose a 52% tariff on US goods. It's more like 12%. So even the "discounted reciprocal tariff" of 26% is more than double the actual tariff rate. Vietnam does not impose a fucking 90% tariff on US goods. We just buy a lot of Vietnamese crap, because they've been an alternative to China
